Much as we love to get our children outside, come rain or shine, we all need some tricks up our sleeve to entertain and relieve the boredom of being stuck indoors. Games and puzzles are a great way to interact with our children, even the youngest will enjoy a matching game or peg puzzle, while older children enjoy classic card games (we even have a great little card holder for little ones to hold their own cards), moving on to more intricate cube puzzles for older children. Games open up the opportunity to talk to children and improve their conversation skills in a way that a screen just won’t! Sharing, taking turns and learning that it’s ok to lose are all skills that are important as children grow. There are also increasing numbers of collaborative games, where there is a shared objective to work together as a team with a common goal.
Art and craft activities are a positive way to allow all children the opportunity to create works of art, even if they aren’t brilliant at drawing. Creative hobby kits, colouring in pictures, gluing and sticking, moulding kits, sewing or knitting all leave the child with a real sense of achievement when they complete their project. You could provide old magazines or pieces of wallpaper, scissors and glue and make patterns or pictures too. Mums and Dads might even learn a new skill – roll your sleeves up and get stuck in!
